APRIL 29, 2015

I’ve been in Manchester, England for the past week.
Why Manchester?

Well it’s the city that really inspired me musically. Joy Division, The Fall, Happy Mondays, New Order etc. Second, I have some great friends here. Allan and Beverly Gallier. Actually they’re more like parents to me… really fucking cool parents.

Allan was the manager of one of my favourite Manchester bands of all time, The Fall. Years ago I had tickets to see the band in Vancouver and when they cancelled I wrote Allan a nasty letter. He responded by giving me a job driving the band around. We ended up really close friends. Now I try to make it over as often as I can. Allan and Beverly are awesome fun and so supportive.

My friend Josh McClurg hook up for a couple gigs for me before I came over so that will keep me busy. I get nervous playing here because music is such a huge part of English culture and if they don’t like you, they tell you! But I didn’t hear that this time around so phew.

Otherwise we didn’t do much. Toured around the city. Ate nice dinners. Saw my fellow Canadian, Dan Mangan, play a show (with my bassist, John Walsh). Always like seeing those guys in far off places!

Bev and I ended the trip by heading out to the country to the Inn at Whitehall. Absolutely beautiful around there. One of me favourite places on earth.

Now I’m all rested up, which is good because I’ve got a north American tour to play and a new album to unleash on the world.

To Manchester!
